Goodbye And Hello

Hello and goodbye is how we usually word it, and I thought that, for me right now, it’s more of a goodbye and a hello. And actually, is it not how it is? First, you say goodbye, and then hello to something new. It gets me to think about my grandma and her approach to getting new things, especially clothes. “One out and then one in”. No need to buy new storage, like drawers, etc. So nowadays, whenever I start thinking about getting more storage, I know it’s time to get rid of things.

“The toughest for man is to reject what he/she doesn’t want,” said to have been written by Albert Camus

And from what I understand, he means that we can get so absorbed in caring for and storing up all that we have in our lives that we forget to ask ourselves whether we still want it. Things and circumstances change, and we don’t see the process unfold. In distance, we see what we no longer want and need, and it stays with us as old habits. This is if we dare and choose to stand still and reflect, listen to ourselves; then we can say goodbye to what no longer serves us, what we no longer want, and make space for new hellos.

Goodbye winter and hello spring

In Jukkasjärvi and its surroundings, seasonal workers left in late March or early April. The last dog sledding tour was about a week ago. Soon, goodbye snowmobiles, and hello four-wheelers and boats. A goodbye to the Seasonal hotel 36 at ICEHOTEL on April 12, and it is eagerly returning to the river, helped by the sun, unusually warm temperatures, and mild winds. And the next day, the jury met to begin selecting and saying hello to the room designs for the ICEHOTEL Seasonal Hotel 37 opening in December. Mrs. Aurora probably danced the last time for the season this past night, saying goodbye and leaving space, and saying hello to the midnight sun to brighten up the sky. That is, we are saying goodbye to long nights and hello to long, actually, never-ending days. And she was always there, the sun, the energy, just not visible for a while.

The sun is always shining

And the darkness and cloudiness are only temporary. The light is always there, shining, just hidden from time to time. It’s like life, sometimes the sky in our life seems like it will be dark forever, cloudy, and raining. But light and sun are always there, and one day we will see them shine again in clear skies, warming us, energizing us to continue walking, opening new doors, and saying hello again with happiness and a smile on our faces. Appreciate and be grateful for another day walking on this planet, realizing it’s not to be taken for granted. And that I’m lucky to have been given these many years, and still counting.

One good thing today

Searching for one good thing in my everyday life, taking a picture or writing it down, makes me realize how blessed I really am – every day. It’s a habit that changes one’s perspective of life and energizes you tremendously. And it makes me fall in love with life over and over again, spreading happiness in the body, putting a smile on my face, and peace in my mind.

Goodbyes are always new hellos

Saying goodbye to certain people lately has been a bit tough, but I also know that it means new hellos. I’m glad that I had the opportunity to spend a part of my life with these people, and I’m immensely grateful for the fun and lessons it gave me. An opportunity to learn and grow to even more enjoy life, and the few days that I’m walking on this earth. And it gives me space to reflect on what I want in life, what I need to say goodbye to, and what I want to welcome and say hello to. Even what’s considered a small thing that makes an impact, what has been longed for in day-to-day life. And that, by chance, recently appeared in my life.

A new hello to a vacuum sealer

I was so thrilled to say hello to the new vacuum sealer I finally got myself to seal the array of specialty coffees I’ve bought lately, so they stay fresh for my daily double espresso. Or, from time to time, when I make a double espresso twice a day. Bags of 40 grams, for 2 double espressos. Small things in day-to-day life that make my days even more pleasurable. Like the smell of fresh coffee beans. What a blessing!

Now it’s time to say goodbye for today and happily say hello to the night. And looking forward to my 11 o’clock double espresso. Fika time!

Thank you for reading, and goodbye for now. I let you go to say hello to the next moment in your life.

Love and hugs,

/Cathrin
